‘Earth鈥檚 vital signs are failing’: UN chief warns as King Charles, Blinken and others address COP28

COP28 president Sultan al-Jaber pledged on Friday that he will work on making the Paris Agreement target of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels 鈥渨ithin reach,鈥 as United Nations (UN) chief Antonio Guterres warned that 鈥淓arth鈥檚 vital signs are failing.鈥 Britain’s King Charles also said the world was seeing 鈥渁larming tipping points being reached” and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken cautioned that food insecurity will worsen with extreme weather events, while Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva said that it was time to address the 鈥渟low-motion pace鈥 of the planet鈥檚 decarbonization efforts.
