It’s been a little more than two years since Gracia Kasoki Katahwa took office as the first Black woman mayor of Montreal’s Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough. Now, on the first day of Black History Month, she takes on new duties as part of the city of Montreal’s executive committee. In our first profile of Black Montrealers making history, we learn more about the former nurse turned politician on the importance of representation and her role as the chief executive of the city’s largest borough.
