Freeland announces $1B federal funding for National School Food Program

Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland announced a new federally-funded National School Food Program on Monday. The initiative, which will be detailed further in the 2024 budget on April 16, will provide $1 billion over the course of five years to help feed roughly 400,000 Canadian schoolchildren across the country. The aim is to kick off the program sometime this year or in 2025, Freeland said.
