Former U.S. president Donald Trump says he will appeal his conviction, a day after a New York jury found him guilty of all 34 felony charges in his hush money trial. On Friday morning, Trump delivered a familiar speech, filled with false claims. It’s still unclear whether the conviction will help or hinder the former president’s 2024 campaign for re-election. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is desperate for new ways to protect his people. He says Russian forces drop more than 3,000 bombs a month on his country. On Friday, NATO leaders debated removing restrictions on Ukraine using western weapons on Russian soil. The Canadian economy has managed to keep growing in the first quarter of 2024, but at a slower pace than expected. Statistics Canada released the latest GDP numbers on Friday morning, as the country holds its breath for next Wednesday’s interest rate decision from the Bank of Canada. And, ayears-long drought is also weighing heavily on the Northwest Territories. Aside from the heightened risk of wildfires, historically dry conditions are dramatically altering sources of water throughout the territory. Emptied lakes and rivers are becoming worryingly common sights. Also in the battle against climate change, expansion of nuclear energy is being considered as an option. One of the drawbacks, however, is what to do what with all the spent fuel. Lastly, “fan-demonium” is building in Texas, as the Edmonton Oilers take on the Dallas Stars in game five of the NHL’s western conference finals.
