Manitoba chiefs are asking a judge to legally recognize Lake Winnipeg as a person with Charter rights. If successful, it would be the latest Canadian waterbody to have such a designation. The Magpie River in northern Quebec was granted personhood in 2021, as part of a growing global movement that aims to protect waterways. Melissa Ridgen reports.
