As an intense bombing campaign inside Lebanon stretches into its third day, Israel has indicated that a ground invasion into its northern neighbour could be imminent. During a visit to Israel’s north, army chief Herzi Halev said the more than 2,000 airstrikes fired since Monday were designed to destroy Hezbollah infrastructure and prepare for a possible ground incursion. The U.S., France and several Arab nations are reportedly working to secure a ceasefire plan at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, and a special meeting on the escalating conflict has also been called at the Security Council.
