New Zealand鈥檚 parliament was briefly suspended on Thursday after members of opposition parties joined Te P膩ti M膩ori MP Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke in a staged haka 鈥 a ceremonial dance and staple in the Indigenous M膩ori culture. The haka came as a protest to a contentious new bill from the ACT New Zealand party, which aims to reinterpret a 184-year-old treaty between the British Crown and the M膩ori. The proposed bill passed its first reading afterwards.
