NASA probe travelling towards Sun set to break records: ‘Total ‘Yay, we did it’ moment’

It’s a feat that until recently space scientists could only dream about. But now NASA’s on the brink of better understanding the atmosphere around the Sun. On the morning of Christmas Eve, the Parker Space Probe was scheduled to travel about six million km from our star’s surface putting it within the Sun’s corona — its outer-most atmospheric layer. “It’s a total ‘Yay, we did it’ moment,” says NASA Associate Administrator Nicola Fox.
