Residential school documentary ‘Sugarcane’ gets Oscar nomination

A Canadian documentary delving into the allegations of abuse at a former Indigenous residential school in British Columbia has been nomiated for an Oscar. “Sugarcane” director Julian Brave NoiseCat says while it’s an honour to have the piece recognized as good filmmaking, he hopes its message and story isn’t lost in the excitement.
