On Tuesday, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh said he is calling for an emergency session of Canada’s Parliament. He wants party leaders to come together to implement measures to protect Canadian workers in light of the broad U.S. import tariffs that came into effect Tuesday morning. “Canadians woke up today to a trade war. This is not something that we wanted. It is unwarranted. It is wrong. It’s illegal,” he said. “The impact of this is probably the worst economic attack on our country that we have experienced in our lifetime. And the repercussions can be devastating.”
