In the White House press briefing on Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that U.S. President Donald Trump was not satisfied after his call with 鈥済overnor鈥 Justin Trudeau earlier that day.
Trump in his social media post also said that Canada鈥檚 actions to stop fentanyl smuggling across U.S. border were 鈥渘ot enough.鈥
During the briefing, Levitt repeatedly pointed to the alleged fentanyl traffic as being Trump’s justification for the tariffs, despite U.S. law enforcement data showing only 1% of fentanyl seized at the U.S. border came from Canada.
Leavitt also confirmed Trump鈥檚 intention to annex Canada. 鈥淗e feels strongly that it would be very beneficial for the Canadian people to be the 51st state of the United States,鈥 Leavitt said.
