White House suggests Canada ‘becoming a competitor’ rather than an ally to the U.S.

While acknowledging Canada as a “neighbour” and longtime ally of the U.S. Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt suggested it was “becoming a competitor” amid an exchange of increasing tariffs between the nations. Leavitt also doubled down on her backing of President Donald Trump’s idea to annex Canada and make it the “51st state,” using Canada’s cost-of-living crisis to back the idea.
