Hundreds of students across the Durham District School Board took part in a conference designed to empower young Black males on April 28. Called 'The Cypher,' the annual event featured various workshops led by Black entrepreneurs, professionals, and community leaders. Students also took part in a hip-hop cypher led by rappers, a beatboxer, and a breakdancer. Around 9 years ago, a group of Black educators started the event after noticing students who looked like them were in need of more support.
