Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew said on Thursday that flags are flying at half-mast at the provincial legislature as a small gesture following the death of two people in a wildfire in the RM of Lac du Bonnet. Fire officials said 21 active fires are burning in the province, as hundreds of people have been forced to evacuate. Kinew added that the province is declaring a state of emergency in Whiteshell Provincial Park.
