Manitoba wildfires force mass evacuations as Kinew warns of ‘very serious’ threat
Description
May 30, 2025
At a press conference on Friday, Premier Wab Kinew spoke about the ongoing wildfire emergency, saying thousands of Manitobans are being evacuated as fires rage across every region of the province. Communities like Flin Flon, Pukatawagan, and Tataskweyak face especially dangerous conditions, with the Canadian Armed Forces and international crews deployed to help. Shelters are being rapidly expanded in Winnipeg and across Manitoba, while the province pleads for calm and cooperation. Officials say over 17,000 people are expected to be displaced by the weekend, with conditions worsened by heat, wind, and no forecasted rain.
