Mi’kmaw artist and grandmother teaching culture and history through soft toy exhibit

Diane Langevin noticed while raising her grandson that there’s a gap in the availability of Mi’kmaw cultural toys. It inspired her exhibit at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design’s Treaty Space Gallery, ‘Hunting the Jipijka’m,’ which features soft serpent-like toys hanging from the ceiling. The goal of the exhibit is to pass along Mi’kmaw knowledge, cultural and education to the young generations, especially those who don’t live in community.
