Canada’s Minister of Industry Mélanie Joly said the federal government has taken “note of the announcements coming from the White House. Of course these are announcements and we will see if they become an executive order,” Joly said Sunday at the North American Aluminium Summit in Montreal. U.S. President Donald Trump said Friday that he will double the tariffs on steel and aluminium imports to 50 per cent. Joly said the “plan is to fight, protect and build.”
