Ontario’s recently passed Bill 5 or the ‘Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act’ enables the provincial government to designate special economic zones. The Ring of Fire in Northern Ontario which sits on Treaty 9 territory is one of the areas that is likely set to be designated as one of these zones.
