Fans filled the stands at the Kawartha Downs racetrack near Peterborough Saturday to watch a pack of wiener dogs line up for one of the year’s most unusual races.

Nearly 300 people RSVP’d online, and hundreds more turned out to cheer the pups on in the highly anticipated “Wiener Dog Race Night.”

The adorable dogs each ran in one of three heats before advancing to a final, with Jax from Trenton taking the title of “Top Dog.”

But the real “Wiener” {as in winner} here- the Peterborough Humane Society.

The event raised more than $850 — and collected about $300-worth of food and toy donations– providing a lift for local animal care.
