From sugar-free sodas to low-carb snacks, erythritol is a popular sugar substitute found in hundreds of products. Approved by Health Canada more than a decade ago, it’s often praised for having almost no calories and minimal impact on blood sugar. But as Amandalina Letterio reports, new research from the University of Colorado Boulder suggests this sweetener may pose health risks.
