Firefighters battle grass fire along Hwy. 7 east of Peterborough

No injuries were reported following a large grass fire along Highway 7 east of Peterborough on Tuesday afternoon.

Around 2 p.m. , drivers reported seeing flames along the north side of the highway in the area of Indian River.

Witnesses tell us several motorists stopped and attempted to use fire extinguishes to tackle the flames.

Firefighters from both Asphodel-Norwood and Otonabee-South Monaghan townships arrived to take over.

Peterborough County OPP briefly closed a section of the highway east of Villiers Line as crews fought the fire.

No word yet on what sparked the blaze.
