Canada’s Federal Court of Appeal has rejected an appeal by Universal Ostrich Farms in Edgewood, B.C. to block the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) cull order on its remaining 399 birds, after 69 died of avian flu earlier this year. In its decision, the court concluded the CFIA鈥檚 decisions were 鈥渁ll reasonable鈥 and the agency has the 鈥渂road discretion鈥 under the law to order the destruction of animals based on mere suspicion of infection.
