For the first time as prime minister, Mark Carney paid a visit to Ukraine on Sunday, reaffirming Canada’s commitment to supporting the war-torn country against Russia’s invasion. Prime Minister Carney met President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Ukrainian capital as they celebrated Independence Day, marking 34 years since Ukraine separated from the Soviet Union. That sovereignty is now under attack. As Carney announced details for billions of dollars in new military aid, he was asked about the possibility of deploying Canadian troops to Ukraine.
