Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said on Thursday that his party would introduce a “bail, not jail” private member’s bill when Parliament resumes. The bill would introduce a new major offences category requiring anyone accused of serious crimes to prove it is safe to release them on bail. He said it would also mandate judges to consider the full criminal history to prevent anyone with prior major convictions from getting bail.
