Super Typhoon Ragasa: ‘Tsunami’ type waves slam Taiwanese island like it’s ‘end of the world’

An eyewitness on Tuesday described the extreme weather from Super Typhoon Ragasa 鈥 the world’s most powerful tropical typhoon this year 鈥 slamming into Taiwan鈥檚 remote Orchid Island 鈥渓ike the end of the world.鈥 Massive waves crashed onto the shore of the small island, located 90 km (56 miles) off Taiwan’s southeast coast. Hana Tsai recounted how the storm鈥檚 force made it nearly impossible to walk upright. 鈥淚t felt like it could blow you away. We couldn鈥檛 even open our eyes,鈥 she said. As waves surged higher, Tsai feared a tsunami. 鈥淚f the waves went over our heads, we wouldn’t have had anywhere to run. We could only pray to live another day.鈥
