Prime Minister Mark Carney heads to Washington on Monday for his second high-stakes face-to-face meeting with the U.S. President. Pressure is mounting on Carney to find an off-ramp from U.S. tariffs that are hammering Canadian steel, aluminum and auto industries, among others. Protests erupted across the U.S. on Sunday against President Donald Trump’s plans to send troops from the National Guard to a growing list of American cities. The union representing 55,000 postal workers says there is no end in sight after Canada Post’s latest contract offer. Plus, in Syria, polls have closed in the country’s first parliamentary elections since dictator Bashar al-Assad was overthrown last year.
