Every November, the Canadian Legion chooses a Silver Cross Mother to represent all mothers who have lost a child in military service. This year, it is Nancy Payne from Lansdowne, Ont. She lost her son, Cpl. Randy Payne in Afghanistan in 2006. And though 19 years have passed since that dreadful day, she told Global National host Dawna Friesen that it never gets easier.
