Last month, the B.C. government decided to postpone scheduled non-essential surgeries in the province in preparation for a surge in COVID-19 cases that could overwhelm hospitals and affect health-care staffing levels. Since the decision took effect at the start of January, Dix said at least 530 surgeries have been postponed.
