Anand ‘fully aware’ of Chinese monitoring buoys in Arctic, says activity is ‘not new’

Defence Minister Anita Anand commented on a recent report that the Canadian military had found and retrieved Chinese monitoring buoys in the Arctic this past fall, confirming she was “fully aware” of the buoys but adding that this type of activity was “not new.” The Globe and Mail reported the buoys were spotted as part of Operation Limpid, which was a continuing effort to provide early detection of threats to Canada’s security.
