During question period in the House of Commons Wednesday — also National Indigenous Peoples Day — NDP MP Leah Gazan called upon Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to implement a Red Dress alert system to help keep Indigenous women, girls and diverse-gendered peoples safe. Though Trudeau said the Liberal government was working on implementing the emergency notification system, his response was what Gazan referred to as “platitudes” amid an “ongoing genocide.”
